Concept:

In an electromagnetic wave for the TM mode (Transverse Magnetic), the magnetic field is entirely transverse, meaning it is perpendicular to the direction of propagation. Therefore, there is no magnetic field (Hz) in the direction of propagation, hence Hz=0.

However, there is an electric field component (Ez) in the direction of propagation, hence Ez≠0.

In the TE (Transverse Electric) mode, Ez = 0 but, Hz≠0, which is the opposite of what is given in the question. The TEM mode has both Ez=0 and Hz=0.
