Given:

A certain sum becomes 3 times itself in 6 years at simple interest.

Principal (P) = ₹X

Amount after 6 years (A) = ₹3X

Time for 3X = 6 years

Amount after unknown time (t) = ₹9X

Formula used:

Simple Interest (SI) = P × r × t / 100

Total Amount (A) = P + SI

Calculation:

For 3X:

SI = A - P

⇒ ₹3X - ₹X = ₹2X

SI = ₹2X

Using SI formula:

₹2X = ₹X × r × 6 / 100

⇒ r = (2 × 100) / 6

⇒ r = 33.33%

For 9X:

SI = ₹9X - ₹X

⇒ SI = ₹8X

Using SI formula:

₹8X = ₹X × r × t / 100

⇒ t = (8 × 100) / 33.33

⇒ t ≈ 24 years

∴ The correct answer is option (4).
