This exam was earlier cancelled due to a technical issue, but has now been held afresh for all affected candidates. Based on real-time feedback from aspirants and expert evaluation, the overall level of the exam ranged from easy to moderate. Candidates who had a clear understanding of concepts and good time management skills found the paper manageable.
Let’s take a look at the section-wise difficulty, key topics covered, and the estimated number of good attempts.
The second stage CBT was divided into two parts—Part A and Part B. Each section varied slightly in terms of complexity. Here's a breakdown of the difficulty level as observed in Shift 1 and Shift 2:
Section |
Difficulty Level |
Mathematics |
Moderate |
General Intelligence & Reasoning |
Easy |
Basic Science & Engineering |
Moderate to Difficult |
Relevant Trade (Part B) |
Moderate |
In Paper 1 (Part A), topics from basic algebra, time and speed, and logical reasoning made up a large portion of the paper. Paper 2 (Part B), which focused on trade-related knowledge, featured a moderate mix of practical and theory-based questions, particularly from electrical and mechanical streams.
The RRB ALP CBT 2 covered a balanced mix of theoretical and application-based questions. The following table presents the prominent topics that appeared across both shifts:
Section |
Topics Asked |
Mathematics |
Time and Work, Speed and Distance, Fractions, Algebra, Simplification |
General Intelligence & Reasoning |
Series, Venn Diagrams, Blood Relations, Statement & Conclusion, Directions |
Basic Science & Engineering |
Work, Power & Energy, Ohm’s Law, Electrical Circuits, Motion, Tools |
Relevant Trade (Part B) |
ITI-level questions from Electrical, Fitter, Mechanical, Electronics trades |
Candidates with hands-on experience and trade knowledge found Part B easier to handle. Engineering principles and electrical fundamentals were emphasized more in Shift 2.
The number of good attempts depends on the difficulty level and time management. Based on student responses, the following table highlights the ideal number of questions attempted with accuracy:
Section |
Good Attempts |
Mathematics |
22 – 26 |
General Intelligence & Reasoning |
24 – 28 |
Basic Science & Engineering |
18 – 22 |
Relevant Trade (Part B) |
50 – 60 |
Overall |
130 – 145 |
Aspirants who maintained speed and accuracy across all sections are expected to be on the safer side of the cutoff. Negative marking played a crucial role, especially in eliminating guesswork.
The second shift of the RRB ALP CBT 2 Exam 2025 was conducted smoothly on 2nd May in multiple exam centers. Candidates appearing in this shift found the paper moderately challenging, especially in the technical section. Shift 2 tested candidates on both their conceptual clarity and practical understanding of trade subjects. The reasoning and mathematics sections remained mostly formula-driven, while the science and trade portions leaned towards technical application.
Here’s the section-wise breakdown of difficulty level, important topics asked, and expected good attempts for Shift 2.
Shift 2 saw a slightly higher level of difficulty in the technical trade portion compared to Shift 1. However, reasoning and mathematics sections remained manageable for well-prepared candidates.
Section |
Difficulty Level |
Mathematics |
Easy to Moderate |
General Intelligence & Reasoning |
Easy |
Basic Science & Engineering |
Moderate to Difficult |
Relevant Trade (Part B) |
Moderate to Difficult |
Mathematics questions were straightforward but required quick calculations. Reasoning was time-saving with familiar topics. The Basic Science and Part B Trade section included in-depth and application-oriented questions that challenged the understanding of technical concepts.
The following table captures the most common topics reported by students in Shift 2:
Section |
Topics Asked |
Mathematics |
Time and Speed, Time and Work, Algebra, Fractions, Percentages |
General Intelligence & Reasoning |
Coding-Decoding, Blood Relations, Number Series, Venn Diagrams, Directions |
Basic Science & Engineering |
Electricity, Resistance, Voltage & Current, Laws of Motion, Units & Tools |
Relevant Trade (Part B) |
Core trade concepts from Mechanical, Electrical, Fitter, and Electronics streams |
Part B in Shift 2 had a more technical approach, focusing on real-world applications of ITI-level subjects. Concepts like current, voltage, electrical machines, and mechanical measurements were frequently asked.
Based on inputs from candidates and coaching experts, here are the section-wise good attempt ranges for Shift 2:
Section |
Good Attempts |
Mathematics |
23 – 27 |
General Intelligence & Reasoning |
25 – 29 |
