Information and Communication Technology, usually abbreviated ICT, refers to the mode of education that uses smart technology to support and enhance learning.

Aims of launching ICT  in schools scheme:

• To build the capacity of secondary stage students on ICT skills.
• To support States/UTs to establish computer labs on a sustainable basis.
• To bridge the digital divide amongst students of various socioeconomic statuses.

Key Points

• Instead of being a successful approach of the teaching-learning process, ICT has not been able to gain momentum in Indian rural schools because it is a costly affair.
• School Education boards often lack the initial allocation as well as matching funds to make feasible investments in ICTs.

The other challenges that affect ICT to gain momentum in Indian rural schools are:

• Lack of ICT literacy in teacher.
• Limited access to ICT facilities.

• The unwillingness of learners to learn.

• Lack of interest of teachers in teaching.

• Lack of pedagogical knowledge among teachers and students, etc.

Hence, it could be concluded that the Information and Communication Technology (ICT) has not been able to gain momentum in Indian rural schools because it is a costly affair.
