The area of a trapezium is 18 sq.cm. Its height and base are 3 cm and 5 cm respectively. Find the length of the side parallel to the base.

We know that area of trapezium = 1/2 × height × (a + b)

Where, a = length of the side parallel to the base

b = base

⇒ 18 sq.cm = 1/2 × 3 × (a + 5)

⇒ 36 = 3a + 15

⇒ 21 = 3a

⇒ a = 21/3 = 7 cm

∴ Length of the side parallel to the base is 7 cm
