(2x + 3)2 - (x + 1)2

Formula used:

(a + b)2 = a2 + 2ab + b2

(a - b)2 = a2 - 2ab + b2

Calculation:

(2x + 3)2 - (x + 1)2

⇒ [(2x)2 + 2 × 2x × 3 + 32] - [(x)2 + 2 × x × 1 + 12]

⇒ [4x2 + 12x + 9] - [x2 + 2x + 1]

⇒ 4x2 + 12x + 9 - x2 - 2x - 1

⇒ (4x2 - x2) + (12x - 2x) + (9 - 1)

⇒ 3x2 + 10x + 8

∴ The correct answer is option (4).
