Question
Download Solution PDFIf a man covers a certain distance at the speed of 20 km/hr and comes back to his initial position with a speed of 30 km/hr. He takes 12 hours to complete the total distance. Find the total distance covered by him?
Answer (Detailed Solution Below)
Detailed Solution
Download Solution PDFGiven:
Required distance = 2dSpeed1, s1 = 20 km/hr
Speed2, s2 = 30 km/hr
Total time taken = 12 hours
Formula used:
Speed = Distance/Time
Calculation
Let the total distance = 2d
Hence,
d/s1 + d/s2 = Total time taken
⇒ d/20 + d/30 = 12
⇒ (3d + 2d)/60 = 12
⇒ 5d = 720
⇒ d = 144
∴ Total distance = 2d = 2 × 144 = 288 km.
