8 years ago, Father's age = 5 × Son's age.

Formula Used:

Let the son's present age = x years.

Father's present age = 3x years.

8 years ago, Father's age = (3x - 8), Son's age = (x - 8).

Given: 3x - 8 = 5(x - 8).

Calculation:

Using the equation:

⇒ 3x - 8 = 5(x - 8)

⇒ 3x - 8 = 5x - 40

⇒ 3x - 5x = -40 + 8

⇒ -2x = -32
