The Common University Entrance Test (CUET) will be used for admission to all UG programs in all Central Universities. The Common University Entrance Test (CUET) would provide a common platform and equal opportunities to candidates from all across the country, particularly those from rural and other remote locations, and will aid in the development of greater connections with universities. What Do You Mean by CUET Normalization of Marks?
The term "normalization" refers to the process of converting values measured on different scales to a "common" scale. It is primarily used to assess the performance of all applicants using similar exam settings.
Its goal is to vary the exam's difficulty level across shifts. Normalization is a well-established method for comparing candidate scores over multiple-session papers, and it's similar to the methods used in India's other big educational selection tests.
A candidate's percentile score is calculated as follows:
100 X Number of candidates in the 'Session' with a raw score equal to or lower than the candidate
Note:-
- Raw score is the score which is the actual score obtained in the exam.
- The Percentile of the Total must NOT be an average or sum of the Percentiles of the Individuals of a distinct subject. The percentile score and the percentage of marks earned are not the same things.
Suppose an exam was conducted for shift 1 on day one
Total Appeared Candidates were 28012 with the Highest raw score (topper’s score) as 335 and the lowest raw score as -39. Now we will establish a relationship between Highest raw score and the lowest raw score to calculate the percentile.

Formula For CUET Normalization of Marks
Below are the steps to calculate the percentile and the procedure involved in the preparation of the CUET Result.
Step 1: Examinees are distributed in two shifts:
Aspirants must be divided into two sessions at random, with an approximately equal number of candidates in each. If there are more days or fewer shifts available, the candidates will be allocated proportionally.
This will ensure that the distribution of students who will take the exam is not skewed. Furthermore, with a huge number of examinees dispersed around the country, the possibility of such bias becomes remote.
Step 2: Result Preparation for Session:
Each session's examination results would be prepared in the form of
- Raw Scores
- Percentiles Scores of Total raw scores.
For each candidate in the Session, the percentiles would be determined as follows:
Let TP1 be the candidate's Percentile Score of Total Raw Score.
Step 3: Compilation of NTA score and Result Preparation:
The Percentile scores for the Total Raw Score calculated in Step-2 above for all sessions (Session-1: Day-1 Shift1, Session-2: Day-1 Shift-2) will be merged and dubbed the NTA scores, which will be utilized for the compilation of results and subsequent processing for choosing the allocation.
Need For Normalisation in CUET Exam
Some students were unfortunate enough to be given a challenging question set in the exam, while others were given a very simple question set. As a result, there was a lot of discord, and candidates began to lose faith in the panel. As a result, aspirants' demand for normalization in the CUET Exam was more of a unified demand.
As a result of the CUET Exam Normalization, the commission is likely to add 10 or 5 points to a candidate's overall score if the paper set he took was tough. Similarly, if the paper set looked to be substantially easy, the commission will subtract 10 or 5 points from the candidates' overall score.
