The Staff Selection Commission Combined Graduate Level (SSC CGL) exam is significant and challenging in India to find people to work in the government in Group B and Group C jobs. The SSC CGL interview was part of the selection process before 2016. However, in the year 2016, the Interview stage was removed from the selection process. This was done to speed up the selection process and make it more objective and straightforward. So, a Personal Interview is not part of the selection process for the SSC CGL Exam now.

There are four stages to the SSC CGL exam. Tier I is a computer-based exam with four parts: Reasoning and General Intelligence, General Awareness, English Comprehension and Quantitative Aptitude. Tier II is also a computer-based exam with two given subjects and two optional subjects. Tier III is based on descriptive writing, and Tier IV is a test of skills or computer skills. The final merit list is based on the aggregate performance of all the candidates.

SSC CGL Exam: Selection Process

The Combined Graduate Level (CGL) exam conducted by the Staff Selection Commission is a challenging exam. It is attempted by many people who wish to get a job with a government organization. Selection Process: The SSC CGL exam has four levels, each serving a different purpose in the selection process.

Tier I: The Preliminary Exam

The first part of the SSC CGL exam is an objective multiple-choice test done on a computer. There are 25 questions in each part, for 100 questions, and you have 60 minutes to finish the test.

Tier II: The Main Exam

You can take only one topic: statistics and general studies (finance and economics). Each paper takes 2 hours to finish. Whether required or not, each subject has 100 questions, and each correct answer is worth 2 marks.

Tier III: Descriptive Exam

The third level is a written paper that asks you to describe something. It tests how well a candidate can write in English or Hindi. Some topics could be writing an article, a letter or application, a summary, etc. This paper will take a total of 60 minutes to write.

Tier IV: Skill Test/Computer Proficiency Test (CPT) 

The last step is either a test of skills or computer skills based on the job profile. It checks how good a candidate is at data entry, computer use, or other skills needed for specific jobs.

Note: Tier III only applies to some jobs, while Tier IV is required for all jobs.

Marking Scheme and Negative Marking: In Tiers I and II, each correct answer is worth 2 marks, and every wrong answer takes away 0.50 moments. But the detailed paper has no negative marking (Tier III).

Cumulative Performance Evaluation: The final SSC CGL rank list is made by adding how well each candidate did in Tier I, II, and (if necessary) Tier III. The marks from Tier II are averaged so that all jobs and papers are on the same level.
