Mid-Ordinate Method:

  • It is used to calculate the Root Mean Square value or Mean Square value or Average value of curve/waveform.
  • It is also known as the Graphical Method.
  • In this method, the waveform is divided up into 'n' numbers of equal portions or mid-ordinate.
  • The more mid-ordinate that are drawn along the waveform the more accurate will be final result.
  • The width of each mid-ordinate will therefore be n degree and the height of each mid-ordinate will be equal to the instantaneous value of the waveform.

Consider a positive half-wave of a sinusoidal waveform,

F1 Nakshatra Madhuri 19.08.2021 D31

From this waveform, RMS value and Average Valur can be determined as,

VRMS\(\large\sqrt{\frac{V_1^2+V_2^2........+V^2_{12}}{12}}\)

VAverage\(\large{\frac{V_1+V_2.......+V_{12}}{12}}\)

Additional Information

Method of Integration: It is used to find the integration of mathematical equation:

Infinite Method: It numerical methods for solving differential equations by approximating them with difference equations, in which infinite differences approximate the derivatives.

n-Strips Method: It is used for the approximate solution of one-dimensional Fredholm integral equations
