Question
Download Solution PDFA shopkeeper gives two consecutive discount of 10% and 5% respectively on his items. He then adds 20% GST on his items. If an item has marked price Rs. 2,000/-, how much more or less of the actual price of the item a customer has to pay?
Answer (Detailed Solution Below)
Detailed Solution
Download Solution PDFGiven:
Marked Price (MP) = ₹2,000
First Discount (D1) = 10%
Second Discount (D2) = 5%
GST = 20%
Formula used:
Effective Price after discount = MP × (1 - D1/100) × (1 - D2/100)
Price after GST = Effective Price after discount × (1 + GST/100)
Calculation:
Effective Price after discount = 2000 × (1 - 10/100) × (1 - 5/100)
⇒ Effective Price after discount = 2000 × 0.9 × 0.95
⇒ Effective Price after discount = ₹1,710
Price after GST = 1710 × (1 + 20/100)
⇒ Price after GST = 1710 × 1.2
⇒ Price after GST = ₹2,052
Actual Price = ₹2,000
Difference = 2052 - 2000
⇒ Difference = ₹52
Percentage difference = (Difference / Actual Price) × 100
⇒ Percentage difference = (52 / 2000) × 100
⇒ Percentage difference = 2.6%
∴ The correct answer is option 2.
