The world of graminoids, or grass-like plants, encompasses three major families – Juncaceae (rushes), Poaceae (grasses), and Cyperaceae (sedges). These plants are found in a variety of habitats.
The Poaceae or Gramineae family comprises of flowering plants known as grasses, which also include cereal crops and bamboo.
Grasses are characterized by hollow stems (with the exception of nodes) and slender leaves, which are alternately arranged in two ranks. The base of these leaves encircles the stem, forming an open sheath.
