Superposition Theorem

The superposition theorem states that in any linear, bilateral network where more than one source is present, the response across any element in the circuit is the sum of the responses obtained from each source considered separately.

Limitations of superposition theorem

  • It cannot be used to calculate power in a circuit. It is only valid for the calculation of voltage and current.
  • It is not applicable for non-linear elements such as a diode, BJT, or OP-AMP because their VI characteristics are non-linear in nature.
