Sampling
Sampling is a method of collecting data for research in which certain individuals or a small portion(subsets) of the population is selected that represents the whole population in order to draw conclusions about the population as a whole.
Important Points
Stratified Sampling
- In stratified Sampling, researchers split the population into homogeneous subsets (subpopulations/subgroups) called strata depending on particular traits such as gender, region, race, education, etc.
- The subsequent probability sampling procedure is used to sample from each subset in order to estimate statistical measures.
Hence, Homogenous subsets in the sampling are called Strata.
Additional Information Clusters
- In cluster sampling, the population is also divided into subgroups,
- but each subgroup should share the same or homogeneous traits with the larger sample.
- Then, the researcher can select a random subgroup by using a sampling technique for analysis.
Samples
- A sample is a group of people or objects used in the study that is taken from a wider population for analysis.
- It should be representative of the whole population for generalization of results.
Sample sizes
The no. of individuals or objects to be included in the study is known as the sample size(denoted by n).
