Question
Download Solution PDFAn offset is laid out 5° from its true direction on the field. If the scale of plotting is 20 m to 1 cm, find the maximum length of the offset so that the displacement of the point on the paper may not exceed 0.5 mm.
Answer (Detailed Solution Below)
Detailed Solution
Download Solution PDFConcept
Displacement of the point on the paper is given as
\(max\:displacement\:allowed(in\:cm) = \frac{l\times sin\Delta }{S} \)
Given
max displacement allowed(D) = 0.05 cm.
Deflection angle(Δ) = 5°
scale = 1(cm) : S(mtr) = 1cm to 20m
S = 20
Calculation
Hence, Max length of offset,l = \({0.05\times 20 \over sin(5)} = 11.47 m\)
Max length of offset,l = 11.47 mtr
As the formula is empirical so remember the formula with units.
