The UGC NET examination is conducted by the National Testing Agency on behalf of the University Grants Commission. This examination is conducted biannually for 82 different subjects, Japanese being one of them. The UGC NET exam pattern has been updated from June 2019 onwards and Paper III has been removed. Now, there are only two papers for each subject - Paper I (compulsory for all) and Paper II (as chosen by the aspirants). Knowledge of the UGC NET Japanese syllabus and exam pattern of Paper II is important for the preparation for the examination. 

• UGC NET Japanese paper II will have 100 multiple-choice questions.
• Some of the important topics mentioned in the UGC NET Japanese syllabus are- Reading comprehension and kanji recognition, Applied Language, Japanese Linguistics, Japanese Literature, Japanese Civilization, History and Intellectual trends, Current Affairs and General Awareness about Japan.
• In June 2019, the cutoff for UGC NET Japanese was 62.00 which was higher than the cutoff in December 2018 which was 53.33 for JRF & Assistant Professor combined. The UGC NET cutoff depends on the number of candidates who appeared and the difficulty level of the question paper.

UGC NET Japanese Syllabus Paper II 2025

The UGC NET Japanese syllabus for Paper II has been divided into 10 units. Candidates need to read all these 10 units in detail to score the maximum marks and thus get selected. UGC NET Japanese Paper II Exam Pattern

The UGC NET Japanese examination will be administered in the Computer Based Test mode only. There will be two papers-

• Paper I - General Paper on Teaching and Research Aptitude (compulsory for all)
• Paper II - Japanese 

In UGC NET Japanese Paper II, 100 questions will be asked and each question will carry a mark of 2. There will be objective questions only, but your subjective knowledge must be strong as well.

UGC NET Japanese Paper II Marking Scheme

Aspirants appearing for the UGC NET Japanese examination need to be aware of the marking scheme as well. All questions carry a mark of 2 irrespective of the paper.

• A mark of 2 will be awarded for each correct answer.
• No marks will be deducted for wrong responses.
• No marks will be awarded for unanswered or marked for review questions.
