In the very centre of Jaipur, where history and tradition converge, Princess Gauravi Kumari embodies the face of modern royalty. She is bridging her royal lineage with an unwavering belief in social revolution. As the General Secretary of Princess Diya Kumari Foundation (PDKF), she is redefining the face of royalty in the new India by enabling women through the conservation and promotion of traditional crafts.
Ever since it was founded in 2013, the PDKF has greatly benefited the lives of numerous poor women of Rajasthan. The organization has already trained more than 10,000 women in different crafts under skill development programs and thus provided them with constant incomes and direction. They work on sewing, handicrafts, computer education, and financial education, all with the purpose of making women financially independent.
One of the trust’s most ambitious projects is the PDKF Store, which was established with the support of Princess Gauravi Kumari. The new brand sells the handiwork of talented women artisans, balancing ancient Rajasthani techniques with innovative, contemporary designs. Collections such as ‘Summer Stripes’ showcase the fusion, with gentle cotton fabrics and playful prints emerging from Jaipur’s rich heritage.
The organization facilitated, in March 2025, the Artisan Collective, a three-day festival of women artisans’ craftsmanship in India. This allowed them to flaunt their crafts and brought to light their profile as businesswomen. Workshops and exhibitions showcased a range of crafts, from meenakari jewellery to Kalighat paintings, with the rich diversity of Indian artisan traditions being seen.
Princess Gauravi Kumari’s work goes beyond just economic support. The PDKF also focuses on education, health, and community growth, creating a complete support system for women. By tackling issues like early marriage, lack of education, and financial challenges, the foundation aims to break the cycle of poverty and gender inequality.
By doing so, Princess Gauravi Kumari demonstrates how tradition and modernity can exist side by side. Utilizing her royal heritage for the benefit of making a difference, she is supporting the protection of Rajasthan’s rich heritage and building a more equitable and empowered society
