Kolkata: In a big move, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Thursday announced that MLA’s Salary would be increased by Rs 40,000 per month. The decision was taken in a cabinet meeting.
The CM said that there would be no revision in the salary of the Chief Minister. As per information, she has not been taking any salary for a long time. While briefing about the cabinet decision, she said that the salary of MLAs in the state was less as compared to other states’ MLAs. Therefore, it has been decided to increase their salary by Rs 40,000 per month.
According to the media report, Cabinet Ministers, Ministers of State and MLAs will continue to receive other allowances apart from their salary. With this increase, MLAs will now get a salary of Rs 50,000 instead of Rs 10,000. At the same time, the monthly salary of state ministers has been increased from Rs 10,900 to Rs 50,900. The salary of cabinet ministers will increase from Rs 11,000 to Rs 51,000.
Salary will be Rs 1.21 lakh
A state government official said the actual salary of MLAs, including pay and allowances, will now increase from Rs 81,000 to Rs 1.21 lakh. Similarly, from now on the salary of ministers will increase from Rs 1.10 lakh to about Rs 1.50 lakh per month. It is noteworthy that the state government employees have been protesting for months demanding an increase in Dearness Allowance (DA).
