The incident occurred on Saturday after a 3m section of the roof of an under-construction stretch of the tunnel caved in at the 14th km mark near Domalapenta in Telangana’s Nagarkurnool district. The tragedy struck just four days after the construction work was resumed following a long break. Some of the workers managed to escape the tunnel, meanwhile, eight laborers are feared trapped within it.
Immediately after the incident, NDRF and SDRF teams were rushed to the site. Additionally, an Engineer Regiment of the Indian Army on standby was ready to assist with an Excavator Dozer. The incident has drawn significant attention from political leaders. According to reports, PM Modi had earlier spoken to Telangana CM A. Revanth Reddy, ensuring full support from the central govt.
