Monkey Steals Purse Containing Jewellery Worth ₹20 Lakh In Vrindavan; Here’s How Police Recovered It

A dramatic incident unfolded near Vrindavan’s Thakur Banke Bihari Temple when a monkey snatched a purse containing jewellery worth ₹20 lakh from a devotee’s wife as the family was leaving the temple

The infamous Banke Bihari Temple in Vrindavan is widely known for monkeys who snatch things and return them after receiving food and juices. As always, a similar incident occurred with an Aligarh-based resident, but what forced police to chase monkeys was that a bag that was stolen carried jewellery worth Rs 20 lakh.

According to media reports, Abhishek Agrawal, a resident of Aligarh in Uttar Pradesh, had come to visit Banke Bihari Temple in Vrindavan along with his family. To safeguard his jewellery in a crowd, his wife kept her gold ornaments in her purse.

After offering prayers when the family was returning, a monkey approached his wife and managed to snatch a purse that carried valuables. To her shock, as Agrawal’s wife shouted and informed locals that the bag was full of gold ornaments, they tried to lure the money but failed despite multiple attempts.

Subsequently, when money left the spot, Agrawal was forced to alert police on emergency helpline number 112. Upon getting information, a team of police comprising the police outpost in-charge of Banke Bihari Temple rushed to the spot and scanned multiple CCTV cameras to trace the monkey.

When he was returning, his wife’s purse was snatched by a monkey. Our team successfully managed to trace the purse using electronic surveillance. All the jewellery was found inside the bag.”

Agrawal also told the media that, “I thank God and the swift action of Vrindavan police for saving me from huge loss.”
