Karisma Kapoor, one of the favorite stars of Bollywood, turns 51 today and her fans simply can not stop admiring the fact that she is ageing in such a graceful manner. Famous for her chartbuster movies (Dil To Pagal Hai and Zubeidaa) as well as her cute and cheerful nature off-screen, Karisma is an ever popular sweetheart.
Today is her special day so we have a glimpse back at one sweet and joyful moment when Karisma revealed how she got her nickname Lolo and how younger sister Kareena Kapoor Khan came to be nicknamed Bebo.
Karisma had featured in an episode of Indian Idol 15 earlier this year. This episode was dedicated to her legendary grandfather Raj Kapoor, on his 100 th birth anniversary. In the performance, Karisma was inquired on how she came up with the name Lolo. She said with a smile, “Foreign actress hai, Gina Lollobrigida, haan. Toh wahan se Lolo aa gaya. Aur meri mummy jo hai naa woh Sindhi hai, toh hum log ek roti hota hai, meethi loli, toh unko lolo bhi bulaate hai. Toh wahan se Lolo, aur yahan se toh papa ne rakh liya unki taraf se.”
This adorable story melted the hearts of fans especially since it was a blend of love that was originated in both cultures of her parents: the glamor of Bollywood and the Sindhi tradition.
Karisma also spoke of her adorable nick name, Bebo, that Kareena picked up. She said, “Toh jab Bebo aa gayi, toh sab soch rahe the abhi inka bhi kuchh funny sa, cute sa naam hona chahiye. Kyunki Dabbu, Chintu, Chimpu, Lolo, abhi inka bhi. Toh papa ne rakh liya Bebo.”
However, it did not finish with the surprises! Karisma then disclosed that they also had a secret name by which their grandfather, Raj Kapoor was called. She said, “Aaj tak National TV pe kisi ko nahi pata, ki dada ji (Raj Kapoor) ka bhi ek pet name tha. Unko Raje bulate the, kyunki sab kehte the you know ki he looks like a rajkumar, gore gore se, blue eyes.”
How adorable is that! Raje to Lolo and Bebo, it appears in the Kapoor family that cute nicknames are a family tradition.
